Çubuk-1 Dam

Çubuk-1 Dam is a gravity dam in Ankara Province that holds back the Çubuk River using a concrete structure. The facility controls water flow across the region and supplies resources to nearby communities.

The dam was completed in 1936 and was Anatolia's first concrete project of its kind, representing major progress in water management. The undertaking showcased early Turkish engineering capabilities in infrastructure development.

The Turkish Chamber of Civil Engineers recognizes this infrastructure among the 50 most notable engineering achievements throughout the entire country.

The dam lies north of Ankara and is reachable by several types of transport. The best time to visit is during the dry season, when water levels are lower and the structure is most visible.

The structure uses materials from local volcanic rocks and shows how regional resources were employed for large-scale projects. This connection between local geology and construction makes the project interesting for engineering history.
