Bayburt Province, Administrative province in Northeast Anatolia, Turkey.
Bayburt is an administrative province in Northeast Anatolia organized into three districts: the central Bayburt district, Aydıntepe, and Demirözü. The region encompasses agricultural lands and valleys across this part of eastern Turkey.
The province was established as an independent administrative unit in 1989 after separating from Gümüşhane Province. This division marked an important shift in how eastern Turkey's territories were organized.
The Baksı Museum overlooks the Çoruh Valley from a hilltop and displays contemporary art alongside traditional regional handicrafts in its galleries. The collection brings together local craftsmanship with modern works, showing how older and newer artistic traditions live side by side here.
The central district uses postal code 69000, while surrounding towns have their own codes for mail and communication. The best time to visit is from May through September when weather in the mountains is milder.
Beneath Aydıntepe lies an underground city with an extensive network of passages and chambers carved directly from natural rock. This maze was created without additional building materials and represents a rare example of this type of rock architecture.
