Grand Synagogue of Edirne, Neo-Mudéjar synagogue in Maarif Street, Edirne, Turkey.

The Grand Synagogue of Edirne stands on Maarif Street as a Neo-Mudéjar structure with three floors featuring ornate architectural details and gallery spaces throughout. The building contains multiple prayer halls and auxiliary areas designed to accommodate large congregations.

A major fire in 1905 destroyed several synagogues in the city, prompting Ottoman authorities to approve construction of this new temple, which was completed in 1909. The building has remained a standing structure since its inauguration.

The synagogue reflects the presence of Sephardic Jews who made Edirne their home after leaving Spain and established their community under Ottoman rule. Visitors can sense this heritage through the building's design and the way it served as a spiritual center for generations.

The building is readily visible from Maarif Street and accessible from ground level, allowing visitors to view its exterior and architectural features comfortably. Plan your visit with awareness that this is an active place of worship where respectful behavior and modest dress are expected.

The building underwent extensive restoration work that was completed in 2015, returning it to its original condition after years of closure. The renovation project focused on preserving the architectural integrity of the interior spaces and decorative elements.
