Church of Sts. Constantine and Helen

The Church of Sts. Constantine and Helen is an Orthodox church in the Abdurahman district of Edirne with a three-nave pseudo-basilica layout. Its central nave is supported by two colonnades that rise together under a single pitched roof.

Construction of this Bulgarian Orthodox church was completed in 1869, funded by Macedonian and Thracian communities living in the area. The building was erected during a period when such religious structures served as vital gathering places for local populations.

The church bears the names of Constantine, a Roman emperor, and Helena, his mother - both figures of major importance in Orthodox Christian tradition. This naming choice reflects the deep spiritual roots that connect this place to early Christian history.

Entry to the interior requires contacting the caretaker beforehand to arrange access to this building. Inside, visitors find a restored iconostasis decorated with numerous religious images that reflect Orthodox artistic traditions.

The eastern nave holds the relocated tombstone of Metropolitan Bishop Ewstatij, who led the Bulgarian Orthodox community until 1888. His grave marker remains a quiet reminder of the spiritual leadership that once shaped this congregation.
