Adalet Kasrı, Ottoman tower in Edirne, Turkey
Adalet Kasrı is a square stone tower positioned at the entrance of Fatih Bridge in Edirne, characterized by its thick walls and solid construction. Staircases built within the walls connect different levels, with rooms accessible on intermediate floors of the structure.
The tower was built in 1561 under Sultan Suleiman's rule by the renowned architect Mimar Sinan. When the surrounding palace complex was demolished in 1877, it remained the sole surviving building from that former royal estate.
The tower once served as a public place where Ottoman authorities announced laws and displayed legal decrees to the community. Visitors can still sense its role as a civic center in the life of the city.
The tower is accessible from outside and allows visitors to examine the facade closely and understand its placement at the bridge entrance. Interior access to the rooms may be limited, so it is worth checking opening times and access regulations in advance.
Six marble stones placed in front of the tower were designated during Ottoman times to display the heads of executed individuals as a public warning. This arrangement reveals how such sites served to demonstrate authority and deter crime in the community.
