Eski Edirne Mosque, Ottoman mosque in Edirne, Turkey
The Eski Edirne Mosque is an early Ottoman prayer hall in Edirne featuring nine domes supported by four central columns. Two minarets of different heights stand at its exterior.
Construction began in 1402 under Emir Süleyman and was completed in 1414 during Sultan Mehmet I's reign. The building marks an important moment in early Ottoman architectural development.
Large calligraphic inscriptions cover the interior walls, displaying religious texts and the names of Allah and Muhammad in the style of traditional Islamic art.
The mosque is located near the market district in central Edirne and can be entered through three doors. The site is easy to reach on foot and provides good access to the prayer hall.
A black stone near the mimbar is said to be a fragment from the Kaaba in Mecca. This detail holds special meaning for many visitors as a connection to the holy site.
