Mayor Synagogue, Historic synagogue in Bursa, Turkey.
The Mayor Synagogue stands on Arap Şükrü Street, featuring traditional architectural elements common to Jewish places of worship in Ottoman territories.
Following their expulsion from Majorca, Jewish refugees constructed this religious building in Bursa during the 15th or late 16th century.
The synagogue served the Spanish Jewish community who merged with local Romaniot Jews, forming a central part of Bursa's religious landscape.
This structure now functions as a mikveh, providing ritual washing facilities for the Jewish community and hosting special religious events.
The building transitioned from a synagogue to a mikveh in 2001 after financial difficulties led to its closure as a place of worship in 1975.
