Geyve Han, Ottoman caravanserai in Central Bursa, Turkey
Geyve Han is a two-story Ottoman caravanserai in Bursa with fifty-six rooms organized around a central courtyard featuring an octagonal marble fountain. The structure arranges accommodations and commercial spaces on both levels to serve merchants and traveling traders.
The structure was built in the 15th century by Haci Ivaz Pasha, master architect to Celebi Sultan Mehmed, and endowed to generate income for the Green Mosque. This arrangement linked the building's commercial function to religious and community purposes in Bursa.
The caravanserai served as a meeting point for merchants and travelers along trade routes with dedicated spaces for both commerce and accommodation. Today textile merchants still occupy the commercial spaces, keeping the building's original purpose alive.
The Han is located in Bursa's Khans Quarter and retains its original commercial function with textile merchants occupying the business spaces. Allow time to explore the rooms and courtyard, and expect to encounter ongoing trading activity during your visit.
The caravanserai has three separate entrances on its south, north, and west sides, allowing merchants to access different areas according to their needs. These multiple access points continue to shape how visitors move through the building today.
