Yeşil Türbe, Ottoman mausoleum in Bursa, Turkey.
Yeşil Türbe is an Ottoman mausoleum in Bursa, Turkey, known for its turquoise tile cladding that makes it visible from afar. The structure has a hexagonal footprint and carries a dome rising above a tall drum.
Sultan Murad the Second ordered this tomb built after his father Mehmed the First died in 1421. Bursa was still the Ottoman capital at the time and experienced a period of intense building activity.
The name comes from the turquoise tiles covering the structure that shimmer in sunlight. Visitors often notice the quiet inside, where locals sometimes pause to pray or seek a moment of silence.
The entrance lies on Yesil Cadessi, a street that connects several historical buildings. Visitors on foot can find the mausoleum easily, since the dome is visible from many points around town.
The prayer niche wall shows a garden scene with roses, carnations, and hyacinths assembled only from colored tiles. This technique required great care, since each petal was individually cut and fitted.
