Soğanlı Zoo, Animal park in Soğanlı district, Turkey
Soğanlı Zoo is an animal park in the southern part of Bursa, Turkey, home to more than a thousand animals from roughly 137 different species in naturalistic enclosures. The site extends across open grounds with paths through wooded sections leading to different habitats, with walkways connecting zones for mammals, birds, and reptiles.
The park opened its gates in 1998 and underwent extensive upgrades afterward to meet international standards for animal care and visitor facilities. It later joined the pan-European association for zoos and aquariums, strengthening its involvement in breeding and education programs.
The name comes from the Soğanlı district, historically known for onion farming and now part of Bursa's southern suburbs. Visitors often see school groups using the green areas between enclosures for outdoor lessons and sketching animals.
The site opens daily from half past nine in the morning until half past five in the evening, with the entrance ticket booth closing an hour before the gates. Every Wednesday all visitors receive half off the admission cost, making that day a popular time for families.
A robot-assisted system allows visitors to control cameras via screens along certain enclosures, letting them watch animals from angles not visible from the footpath. This technical aid was introduced to improve observation without disturbing animals or their retreat areas.
