Güllübağ Dam, Gravity dam in Erzurum Province, Turkey
Güllübağ Dam is a gravity structure spanning the Çoruh River in Erzurum Province, standing approximately 71 meters above the riverbed. The facility includes three large spillway openings with radial gates and a reservoir that supplies water across the region.
Construction began in 2009 with a temporary tunnel to divert the river flow during building work. The facility came online gradually and reached full operation when the final generator started running in 2013.
The Güllübağ Dam represents Turkish engineering advancement in hydroelectric infrastructure, demonstrating the nation's commitment to renewable energy development and water management.
Spring and summer offer the clearest views of the structure and surrounding landscape, as water levels fluctuate with the seasons. The site is easily accessible from nearby towns via local roads that lead directly to the dam's viewing area.
Water must travel through a tunnel approximately 3 kilometers long after leaving the dam before reaching the turbines below. This underground pathway is part of a larger engineering system that includes other tunnels and elevated structures built to navigate the steep terrain.
