Kaçkar Mountains National Park

The national park spans 52,970 hectares of diverse terrain including glacial areas, alpine meadows, coniferous forests, rivers, and streams at elevations reaching 3,937 meters.

The mountain range, formerly known as Lazistan Mountains, received national park status in 1994 to safeguard its natural resources and geological formations.

Eleven villages and forty-four seasonal pastures within the park maintain traditional highland lifestyles, with herders moving their flocks according to ancient patterns.

Visitors can access the park through Rize, Trabzon, or Artvin, with established camping areas in Camlihemsin and accommodations available at Ayder Plateau.

Five major glaciers within the park create specific microclimates that support rare plant species and provide habitat for wolves, bears, wild boars, and mountain goats.
