Marmara İlahiyat Mosque, Modern university mosque in Istanbul, Turkey.
The Marmara İlahiyat Mosque is a modern prayer building at Marmara University in Istanbul that spans four floors. The upper levels provide prayer spaces, underground levels house parking, and additional rooms support teaching, exhibitions, and meetings within the complex.
The building opened in 2015 and doubled the prayer capacity of the Theology Faculty. This was a major step to meet the university's growing needs.
The mosque serves as a gathering space where students and faculty pray and interact together, creating a place for shared religious and academic community. Its design shows how contemporary Islamic life is woven into university education.
The complex offers visitors parking in the basement and a book cafe along with a dining hall for meals and breaks. Internet access is available throughout the building, making it convenient for students and guests.
The building features fractal patterns inspired by nautilus shells and blends traditional ceiling craftsmanship with modern engineering. This mix of old and new techniques creates a visually unusual interior.
