Maraş Mosque

Maraş Mosque is a place of worship in Kahramanmaraş built with a wooden roof structure and featuring a standalone minaret decorated with ceramic tiles in the courtyard. The building displays traditional construction techniques visible throughout its design.

The building was constructed during the Dulkadirid dynasty between 1442 and 1454, a period of active building in the region. Major renovation work took place in 1501 under the direction of Bozkurt of Dulkadir.

This place serves as a focal point for daily prayers and community religious gatherings among local believers. The building anchors the spiritual life of the neighborhood where people come together throughout the week.

The building sits south of Kahramanmaraş Castle and northwest of the covered market, making it easy to locate. Visitors should dress respectfully and be mindful during prayer times, as these are moments of active worship.

The minaret stands separately from the main structure, a feature that differs from typical Ottoman mosque design in the area. This architectural choice reflects construction approaches common in Anatolia during the period of its building.
