Değirmenboğazı Nature Park

Değirmenboğazı Nature Park is a protected forest area in Balıkesir Province featuring pine trees and Mediterranean plant life. The terrain rises gradually across the park, creating varied landscapes as you walk through the different elevations.

The park was developed through large-scale reforestation in the 1950s and 1960s, when thousands of seedlings from many different species were planted across the land. These efforts transformed the area into the forest that visitors see today.

The Köteyli stream basin within the park contains alluvial and brown soil formations that support diverse plant species including maple, cypress, and stone pine trees.

The park has walking paths and basic visitor facilities that are maintained regularly. Wear sturdy shoes as the terrain is hilly and many trails cross uneven ground.

The forest area supports a surprisingly diverse fungal community with hundreds of species thriving in the park's moist soil. This hidden dimension of the park goes unnoticed by many visitors, though fungi enthusiasts find it especially rewarding.
