Tohma Bridge, Road bridge in Malatya Province, Turkey
The Tohma Bridge is a modern road bridge that spans across the Karakaya Dam reservoir, connecting the provinces of Malatya and Sivas in Turkey. It has a main span exceeding 500 meters and was built using a box girder construction method.
The bridge was started in 2018 and completed in 2021, improving connections between Eastern Anatolia and the Black Sea Region. It became an important infrastructure development for the area.
The bridge bears the name Martyr Gaffar Güneş Bridge, maintaining the Turkish tradition of commemorating national figures through infrastructure dedications.
The bridge has four lanes and handles regular traffic between the provinces smoothly. It can be accessed via State road D.875 and provides a stable crossing.
The bridge was built using the incremental launch method, where the girder was progressively pushed forward. This construction approach allowed the structure to be built over the reservoir without requiring extensive temporary barriers.
