Xinshe District

Xinshe District is an agricultural area in the western hills of Taichung. The landscape features gently sloped terrain dotted with small farms, roads winding through green fields, and rural settlements scattered throughout the rolling countryside.

The area experienced severe damage from a major earthquake in 1999 that destroyed many hillside homes. The subsequent rebuilding of homes and roads shaped how the district developed in the following years.

The district revolves around farming, with orchards and nurseries visible throughout the rolling terrain. You'll see rows of fruit trees and plants that local families have cultivated for generations, shaping how the community lives and works.

Provincial Highway 21 and County Road 129 are the main routes through the district, connecting the scattered settlements. The best time to visit is during drier months, as rainfall can be heavy year-round.

Despite its rural character, the district hosts military installations that shape parts of the landscape. This unexpected presence creates an interesting contrast between farming communities and defense infrastructure.
