Wuluanqi Cemetery

Wuluanqi Cemetery is a family tomb in Taiping featuring marble bas-reliefs, manicured gardens, and ten obelisks arranged in a formal line before a protective wall. The tallest obelisk stands at the center, serving as the visual anchor of the entire composition.

Built in 1922 by Wu Dongbi as a tribute to his father Wu Luanqi, the cemetery occupies a large estate. It received official recognition as a historical site in 1992 due to its architectural and cultural significance.

The cemetery blends Western sculptural traditions with Eastern architectural concepts in its design and decoration. This fusion reflects how a prominent family chose to express their identity and values through built form.

The site sits at No. 14-1 Dongfang Street and can be viewed from the entrance gate without advance notice. If you wish to enter the interior, it is best to arrange this with the on-site staff beforehand.

The cemetery sustained significant damage from a major earthquake in 1999 and underwent comprehensive restoration in 2003. This careful rebuilding preserved the original architectural details and structural features for visitors today.
