Wen Ying Hall, Cultural center in North District, Taichung, Taiwan
Wen Ying Hall is a cultural center in the North District of Taichung, Taiwan, housed in a building that combines Western and Chinese architectural styles. It contains a gallery, an auditorium, and several other rooms used for exhibitions and events.
The hall opened in October 1976, funded by the Taichung Wen Ying Foundation and businessman He Yong. From the start, it was built to serve the local community as a place for art and culture.
The second floor hosts rotating exhibitions of traditional Taiwanese woodblock prints, an art form with deep roots in the island's craft history. Visitors can see both printing blocks and finished works side by side, which makes the process easy to follow.
The hall is within walking distance north of Taichung Station, making it easy to combine with a visit to the city center. It is worth checking what is currently on before you go, as the program changes regularly.
The center holds a collection of over 3,000 folk and cultural objects, many of them everyday items rarely seen in other local museums. These objects offer a grounded view of how daily life in Taiwan looked a few generations ago.
