Guangfu, Administrative township in Hualien County, Taiwan
Guangfu is an administrative township in the valley between two mountain ranges on Taiwan's east coast, where agricultural land dominates the landscape. The area is served by a railway station and Provincial Highway No. 9, which connect it to nearby regions.
The area was originally known as Matai'an when it was an indigenous settlement, before developing into the administrative township we see today. This transformation reflects the region's evolving past.
The Amis people make up about half the population and shape daily life through their festivals, local food, and community gatherings. Their traditions remain visible throughout the region, from family celebrations to public events.
Visitors can easily reach the township by train or car using the provincial highway, and from there travel to neighboring areas. Walking or cycling through the flatland is a good way to explore the agricultural areas and get a real sense of the place.
A special treasure is the Matai'an Wetland, which contains the largest water ecosystem in the entire county and supports over a hundred different water plants. This ecological preserve offers a rare glimpse into the region's biodiversity.
