Dawulun, Coastal fort and beach area in Anle District, Taiwan
Dawulun is a coastal area in Anle with a fort positioned on high ground that overlooks Keelung Harbor. The fort contains military tunnels and defensive structures, while a sandy beach stretches alongside it.
The fort was built in 1820 during the Qing Dynasty to defend the western side of Keelung Harbor from attack. The fortifications were later updated and served military purposes during subsequent conflicts.
The name Dawulun comes from local language roots and reflects the area's deep connection to the sea. Fishermen and residents shape the community through their daily dependence on ocean resources and maritime traditions.
The area is easily reached from Keelung and works well for a half-day visit with walking paths to both the fort and coastline. The route to the fort involves some uphill walking, but the trails are straightforward and accessible.
The fort contains underground tunnels and trenches from the military era that remain visible today. These structures reveal how soldiers once worked and lived within this defensive network.
