Baxianshan, Mountain summit in Heping District, Taichung, Taiwan
Baxianshan is a 2,448 meter summit in the Xueshan Range near Kukuan Village in central Taiwan. The mountain sits between the Shifen River and Jiabo River watersheds and is covered entirely in forest.
During the Japanese colonial period, the mountain was one of Taiwan's three main logging stations. This extensive timber operations led to the construction of forest trails that remain visible today.
The name references Chinese mythology, as its height of around 8,000 Taiwanese feet sounds like 'Eight Immortals' in the local language. This mythological connection makes the place spiritually significant for many who climb here.
Reach the mountain via bus route 153 from Taichung High Speed Rail Station to Kukuan Village, then use local transport to the recreational area. The cooler months offer the most comfortable climbing conditions and clearest views.
The forested slopes and varied elevation zones support 59 native bird species and five migratory bird species. This bird diversity makes the mountain a remarkable location for birdwatching along the climb.
