Guguan, Taiwan

Guguan Hot Spring sits at 800 meters elevation along the Daya River, surrounded by mountain trails and natural carbonic acid waters.

The thermal waters were discovered by the Atayal tribe in the early 1900s and later developed into Meiji Hot Spring during Japanese administration.

The area maintains strong connections to Atayal indigenous traditions, with local customs visible in architecture, food preparation, and community practices.

Visitors can reach Guguan via bus routes 153 and 850 from Taichung city center, with the journey taking approximately two hours.

The Seven Heroes of Guguan trail network includes Mount Pojinjia, offering hiking paths without the numerous stairs found on other local routes.
