Kukuan Dam, Arch dam in Heping District, Taichung, Taiwan
Kukuan Dam is an arch structure that stretches 149 meters across the Dajia River and rises approximately 85 meters high. The concrete construction stores water for power generation and is part of a larger dam system within the valley.
It was constructed between 1957 and 1961 and was the third dam built in the Dajia River system. It followed earlier projects in the region and contributed to Taiwan's hydroelectric development.
The structure is known locally as Guguan Ba and represents engineering achievement for the region. It shows how the area harnesses water resources to create power for everyday use.
The area offers viewpoints where you can see the scale of the structure and the reservoir. Visitors should wear appropriate footwear since paths around the site can be uneven.
The reservoir holds about 13.2 million cubic meters of water and sits between two other dams, with one located upstream. This special position makes it an important link in a network of hydroelectric facilities.
