Shaolai Mountain

Shaolai Mountain is a peak in Taichung County with a hiking trail about 5 kilometers long that runs through mountain forest. The path passes through stands of rhododendrons and tall trees that create a layered forest environment.

Local mountaineering groups opened the first official trails here during the 1970s, establishing organized hiking on the mountain. This marked the start of systematic development for public mountain exploration in the region.

The mountain draws local hiking groups who regularly organize expeditions and care for the trails together. Visitors often encounter these communities on the slopes, where shared passion for the outdoors shapes how the place is used.

Hikers need a permit from Taichung City Police Bureau and should carry at least 2.5 liters of water since water sources on the mountain are scarce. Proper preparation and adequate hydration are essential for a safe climb.

The hiking trail connects with Yuan Zui Mountain to form a loop that passes through different rock formations. Along the way, visitors may spot the native Formosan Blue Pheasant, a bird species rarely seen elsewhere.
