涼山瀑布, Natural waterfall in Pingtung County, Taiwan
Liangshan consists of three cascades along the Niujiaowan Stream, with the first dropping about 20 meters into a clear pool below. The water flows over moss-covered rocks and feeds several natural swimming basins as it descends the slope.
Indigenous peoples settled in this area long ago and relied on the water source for their daily needs and survival. The location remained important for generations as a vital freshwater and living space.
The name Liangshan means Cool Mountain in Chinese, referring to the cooler air created by water mist and dense vegetation in the area. Visitors notice this temperature drop as they approach the flowing water.
The full hiking route is roughly 4.6 kilometers with about 250 meters of elevation gain and takes around two to three hours round trip. Wear sturdy shoes with good grip since rocks near the water become slippery, especially after rain.
The middle waterfall creates a natural swimming pool where hikers can cool off during their ascent to the third cascade. Many visitors take advantage of this spot to refresh and regain energy for the rest of the hike.
