烘爐塞山, Mountain hiking trail in New Taipei City, Taiwan
烘爐塞山 (Honglü Saishan) is a forested hiking mountain in New Taipei City, Taiwan, with several marked trails leading to viewpoints at different elevations. The paths wind through dense woodland and connect various points along the hillside, allowing walkers to choose their own level of effort.
The trails on Honglü Saishan were gradually opened up by locals from the 1970s onward, as people from the New Taipei area began walking these hills for recreation. Over time, the paths were widened and marked to welcome more visitors from further away.
The name of the mountain contains the character for "furnace" (烘爐), which points to old ways the local villagers once used this land. Today the trails are mostly used by people from the surrounding neighborhoods who come out on weekends for a walk in the forest.
The trails are open year-round, but after rain the paths can get slippery, so sturdy footwear is a good idea. There are several entry points around the mountain, so it helps to check which trailhead matches your planned route before setting out.
On clear days, the upper part of Honglü Saishan offers a view that takes in both the Taipei city skyline and the surrounding forested ridges at the same time. Seeing a dense urban grid and wooded hills side by side from a single spot is something many regular hikers in the area find unexpected even after multiple visits.
