Chiayi Shuangzhong Temple, Chinese temple in East District, Chiayi City, Taiwan.
Chiayi Shuangzhong Temple is a Chinese temple in the East District of Chiayi featuring terrazzo dragon columns and detailed reliefs of dragons and tigers. These ornamental works were created by skilled artisans Lin Tien-mu and Chen Chuan-yu.
The temple was founded in 1677 and suffered damage during World War II, prompting major reconstruction work in 1945. Rebuilding efforts incorporated materials imported from Fujian province.
The temple honors Chang Hsun and Hsu Yuan, two Tang dynasty loyalists who died during the Battle of Suiyang in the An Lushan Rebellion. Visitors can see this veneration reflected in the altars and ornaments throughout the interior.
The temple sits in a convenient location near Chiayi Railway Station, making it easy to reach. The site welcomes visitors and is accessible during daylight hours.
Inside the temple sits a distinctive paper-paste horse figure connected to local farming traditions. This sculpture appears in various regional stories that visitors may encounter during their visit.
