Daguan Academy

Daguan Academy is a 19th century educational building in Banqiao District featuring traditional Taiwanese design with decorated beams, pillars, and a central hall. The structure blends historic architecture with current use, as a kindergarten now operates in its renovated sections.

The Lin family founded this learning center in 1863 to build peace between the Zhang and Quan clans through shared education. The building emerged during an era when such institutions served as vital spaces for community and social harmony.

The central hall holds one of the oldest deity statues in New Taipei City, showing the god of wisdom with figures representing learning and martial prowess. These statues reflect how education was once connected to spiritual beliefs in local practice.

The site is open for visitors to explore the historic spaces while the kindergarten operates in renovated areas. Note that some sections may have limited hours, so plan ahead to make the most of your visit.

Students across generations carved their wishes and dreams into the wooden beams and pillars throughout the building. These inscriptions form a quiet archive of hopes from different periods in time.
