Tengjhih National Forest Recreation Area

Tengjhih National Forest Recreation Area is a protected woodland zone spanning multiple elevation levels with Chinese firs, maple, cherry, and plum trees. Several viewing points offer perspectives across the forest's different layers and the surrounding terrain.

The Forestry Bureau created this protected space to balance long-term forest management with public recreation needs. This dual purpose established the character the woodland maintains today.

The forest serves as a living classroom where visitors observe how Taiwan manages and protects its woodlands through direct experience. Walking the paths shows practical examples of sustainable forestry methods in action today.

The woodland is open during daytime hours and features paths suited to various fitness levels and interests. Bring warm layers since the elevation and frequent cloud cover create cool conditions.

Heavy fog rolls in around 180 days each year, and from the observatory platform visitors see what looks like a sea of clouds spreading above the surrounding mountain ridges. This rare natural display draws photographers and nature watchers especially during wetter seasons.
