Former Dormitory for Tainan County Government, Xinying

This former government residential building is a timber-frame structure from the 1930s constructed with red cypress wood and featuring traditional Japanese architectural details. The construction displays period-appropriate structural elements that reflect the building techniques of that era.

The building was constructed in 1935 as official residential accommodation for government employees during the Japanese colonial administration. It has survived the decades since as a rare example of colonial-era administrative housing.

The building now serves as a cultural venue hosting tea ceremonies and art exhibitions that celebrate traditional practices. Visitors can experience how these customs remain active in daily use rather than existing only in history.
