原岡山日本海軍航空隊宿舍群

The Origoka-Yamaarashi Japanese Naval Air Force residential complex is a group of approximately 35 buildings in Gangshan designed as housing for military officers. The structures are organized into two main sections and form a cohesive settlement featuring Japanese military-era architecture.

The Japanese Naval Air Force built these residences in 1940 as Kaohsiung Airfield expanded its operations from civilian to military use. After the war, the Republic of China Air Force took over the buildings and converted them into family quarters for airmen.

This complex reflects a transformation from Japanese military housing to Republic of China Air Force quarters, showing how power shifts shaped the everyday lives of those living here. The buildings stand as a record of Taiwan's layered past and its different rulers over time.

The site is walkable and accessible throughout, with clear paths connecting the different building sections. Plan enough time for a leisurely visit to fully appreciate the architectural details and settlement layout.

The complex originally housed officers of the 11th Fleet and 23rd Air Squadron during World War II before sheltering over 50 Air Force families afterward. This shift shows how one place captures both wartime operations and Taiwan's post-war transformation.
