Gangshan Refuse Incineration Plant, Waste management facility in Gangshan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan
Gangshan Refuse Incineration Plant is a waste processing facility located in the Benzhou Industrial Park in Kaohsiung. The site processes household and industrial waste from multiple districts and converts the energy generated during combustion into electricity for local use.
The facility opened in 2001 as a joint project by Takuma Co. Ltd. and China Steel. Major improvements were carried out in 2017 by ECOVE Environment Service Corp to enhance operational reliability and performance.
The facility demonstrates Taiwan's dedication to environmental responsibility through waste reduction, energy recovery, and strict adherence to governmental air quality standards.
The site can be viewed during daylight hours from designated viewing areas positioned around the perimeter. Morning and early afternoon visits offer the best opportunity to observe active operations and machinery in use.
A specialized anti-sintering system was installed during the 2017 modernization to prevent material buildup inside the furnace. This breakthrough in operational technology transformed the plant from requiring frequent maintenance stops into a continuously running facility.
