Baitul Muslimin Mosque, mosque in Su'ao, Yilan County, Taiwan
The Baitul Muslimin Mosque is a prayer house and community center in the Nanfang-ao area of Suao, Taiwan. The two-story building features a prayer hall with a mihrab and minbar on the upper floor, along with washrooms and rest areas on the ground level for daily use and gatherings.
The building was established in 2014 as the first Islamic place of worship in Yilan County to serve Indonesian fishermen working in the area. After structural challenges, the community relocated to a new site in 2019 on Lixing Street with assistance from the Chinese Islamic Association.
The name Baitul Muslimin means "House of Muslims" and reflects its role as a community center for the Indonesian fishing population. It serves as a space where people maintain their traditions and find connection far from home.
The mosque is roughly one kilometer from Suao Station and can be reached on foot, by scooter, or taxi. The area experiences humid and rainy conditions especially in summer, so visitors should dress accordingly and show respect for the prayer space and those using it.
The community repaired the original building themselves using carpentry skills and donations before relocating in 2019, showing the strong commitment of the Indonesian community to this place. This story of self-help reflects how deeply meaningful the space is to the workers.
