赤崁樓大士殿, Religious temple in Chihkan Village, Taiwan.
The 赤崁樓大士殿 is a Chinese temple in Chihkan Village that displays traditional building styles with carved stone work and decorative roof elements from the Ming period. The structure contains multiple halls where different deities are housed in shrines.
The site where this temple stands was once occupied by Fort Provintia, built by Dutch colonists in 1653. After Dutch rule ended, the land was transformed into a religious space and has been renovated several times since then.
People come here to light incense, make offerings at the various altars, and take part in traditional rituals that are still practiced regularly. The space feels open and welcoming to visitors who want to observe or join these quiet spiritual moments.
The temple is easily reached by bus, with the nearest stop about 200 meters away on Minquan Road in central Tainan. Plan your visit during daylight hours to see the interior details and allow time to walk through the different halls at a comfortable pace.
Inside the temple sits a collection of stone tablets carved with Chinese characters from the Qing period, recording historical events and administrative documents. These tablets give visitors a chance to see original historical records carved in stone from centuries past.
