Dovzhenko Film Studios, Film production complex in Shevchenkivskyi District, Kyiv, Ukraine
Dovzhenko Film Studios is a production complex with multiple sound stages, post-production facilities, and digital restoration equipment spread across a large industrial compound in Kyiv. The site offers complete film production capabilities from initial filming through final post-production in one location.
The facility began operations in 1927 as a cinema factory and became the primary film production center of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. During World War II, some operations moved to Tashkent while German forces used the Kyiv location to produce propaganda content.
The studios are named after Alexander Dovzhenko, a filmmaker who shaped Soviet cinema through his work. This naming reflects his lasting impact on the region's film industry.
The complex is located near central Kyiv and is accessible from various parts of the city. Keep in mind that the facility functions as an active production center, so access may be restricted depending on ongoing projects.
The complex houses a digital restoration workshop that brings classic Soviet films back to their original quality. This preservation work keeps an important chapter of film history alive for future audiences.
