Cat Panteleimon Monument, Bronze monument at Zoloti Vorota station, Kyiv, Ukraine.
The Cat Panteleimon Monument is a bronze statue of a sitting Persian cat placed near the entrance of the Zoloti Vorota metro station in Kyiv. The figure is life-sized, set on a low base, and easy to spot from the pavement.
The statue was made in 1998 in memory of a cat named Panteleimon who lived at a restaurant near the Golden Gate and died in a fire there. It was placed near the same spot where the restaurant once stood.
Many passersby stop to stroke the bronze cat, as it is said to bring good luck to those who touch it. This small gesture has turned the statue into a quiet daily ritual for locals and visitors alike.
The monument sits just outside the Zoloti Vorota metro station and is easy to find without any advance planning. It stands at street level and is freely accessible at any time of day.
The original sculpture included a bird as part of the scene, but it was removed after repeated damage by passersby. Most people who stop today have no idea the bird ever existed.
