This granite memorial in Shevchenko Park features a carved string instrument as its main element. It stands near the Opera and Ballet Theater and was built in the 1990s to honor musicians who disappeared during Soviet persecution.

During the 1930s, hundreds of these musicians were arrested during Soviet repression, and many disappeared at a gathering in Moscow. The memorial was later built to mark this difficult period in Ukrainian history.

These musicians performed traditional songs with string instruments, often traveling from place to place to share folk stories. Many were blind performers whose art was woven into the fabric of Ukrainian community life.

The memorial is easy to find in the central area of the park near well-known buildings. It remains accessible throughout the year and serves as a gathering point for remembrance events and cultural activities.

In 2015, the carved instrument was removed from the memorial, showing how vulnerable such monuments can be to damage. This event is still part of the site's story and reminds visitors of the ongoing need to protect important memorials.
