Харакс паркы, Protected natural park in Gaspra, Crimea.
Haraks Park spans about 100 hectares along the southern coast and combines garden landscape with an elegant stone manor topped with red roof tiles. The building anchors the grounds and presents varied views from different positions within the estate.
A Roman fort called Charax occupied this location until the 3rd century as part of the ancient empire. In 1869 a member of the imperial family acquired the land and built the current mansion with its refined architecture.
The park's name comes from the ancient Roman fortress that once occupied this location, and this historical connection shapes the character of the place today. Visitors can encounter traces of this past throughout the grounds as they explore.
The site sits on high ground above the sea, so comfortable footwear and weather protection are advisable, especially during changeable conditions. Access works best via the coastal road, and exploring the grounds requires time to walk through different areas.
A notable feature is the elevator carved through the rock that takes visitors down to the beach. Additionally, columns from another imperial structure were reused when building the main mansion, showing how different architectural elements were combined.
