Mishor-Ai-Petri aerial lift, Cable car transport system in Republic of Crimea
The Mishor-Ai-Petri aerial lift is a cable car system spanning 2980 meters that connects the coastal resort of Mishor with the Ai-Petri mountain peak at 1066 meters elevation. Two cabins, each holding 35 passengers, transport visitors between these stations throughout the day.
Construction started in 1967 to solve the transport challenge over steep terrain, but took until 1988 to complete due to significant technical obstacles in this extreme landscape. The lengthy building process reflected the difficult conditions that engineers had to overcome.
The cable car links two different worlds: the busy coastal resort below and the quiet mountain landscape above where hikers spend their days. People use it daily to move between these contrasting environments.
The journey upward takes about 15 minutes, with the views gradually changing from coastline to mountain landscape during the ride. On clear weather days the views are much better, so timing your visit to avoid fog helps make the most of the experience.
The longest unsupported cable span between two stations stretches more than 2 kilometers and earned a place in the Guinness World Records for this engineering feat. This design allows passengers to float freely over the mountainside for an extended time.
