The Dormition Cathedral features a bell tower with a Munich-made clock and an observation gallery used for fire surveillance in past times.
Construction of the cathedral began in 1753 as an episcopal residence, taking nearly 30 years to complete with funding from the local community and Emperor Franz Joseph I.
The cathedral houses religious treasures including a fragment of the True Cross from Rome and a reproduction of the Turin Shroud.
Located 300 meters from Mukachevo Town Hall, the cathedral welcomes visitors through its main entrance marked by a statue of Virgin Mary with fresh flowers.
During the Soviet period, the cathedral interior was completely emptied, including the removal of heating radiators, before its return to Greek Catholics in 1992.
