Limena Kale, Medieval fortress in Crimean Mountains, Ukraine
The fortress stands on a mountain plateau at 600 meters above sea level, with stone walls stretching across 90 hectares of land.
The fortress originated between the 5th and 6th centuries as a fortified settlement, later becoming a residence for the first Crimean Khan.
The site represents a convergence of Alan, Karaite Jewish, and Tatar influences, evidenced by architectural elements and religious structures throughout the complex.
The fortress requires careful planning to visit as the last return bus to Kerch departs at 8:30 PM from the nearest stop.
The cemetery within the fortress contains tombstones with inscriptions dating from 1203, providing evidence of ancient Krymchak and Karaite communities.
