Branchburg, township in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States
Branchburg is a township in Somerset County, New Jersey, spanning roughly 20 square miles and encompassing two smaller communities called North Branch and Neshanic Station. The landscape consists of quiet roads, farmland, residential neighborhoods, and business areas that create a small-town character throughout the region.
The area was originally home to the Raritan Indians before Dutch and English settlers purchased the land in the late 1600s. The township was officially created in 1845 and took its name from where two branches of the Raritan River converge.
The area is crossed by State Highways 202 and 22, along with County Route 28, offering easy connections to nearby cities. A park-and-ride bus terminal at Highway 202 North provides daily service to New York City, and the North Branch train station offers service to Newark.
An old schoolhouse built in 1873 still stands in the township and has been recognized for its historical value. This one-room building serves as a visible reminder of the community's early educational history.
