Birdland, Jazz club in Theater District, Manhattan, US
Birdland is a jazz club in the Theater District of Manhattan with seating for 500 guests across its main hall and several dining areas. The space has been acoustically designed to allow live music alongside table service.
The club opened in 1949 under the name of Charlie Parker and moved from its original Broadway location to West 44th Street in 1996. This relocation brought operations closer to the current theater area.
Visitors come seven nights a week to hear live performances while having dinner at tables near the stage. The name honors Charlie Parker, whose nickname gives this Theater District spot its identity in the city's jazz tradition.
Dinner service starts at 5:00 PM, while concerts begin at 8:30 PM with a late show at 11:00 PM. Reservations are recommended as seating is limited and fills quickly.
Every Monday, emerging jazz artists perform as part of a longstanding tradition to showcase new talent. Memorabilia throughout the club recalls the connection to Charlie Parker and the early days of bebop.
