Rock Island County, County administrative division at Mississippi River, Illinois, US.

Rock Island County extends over 451 square miles of land and water, bordered by the Mississippi River to the west and containing the cities of Rock Island and Moline.

The county formed in 1831 from Jo Daviess County, taking its name from an island in the Mississippi River that later became Arsenal Island.

The Rock Island Arsenal, established in the 1880s, stands as a primary military equipment manufacturing center, employing thousands of local residents.

Three interstate highways cross through the county: I-74, I-80, and I-88, connecting residents to major metropolitan areas in the region.

The county maintains a consistent Democratic voting pattern since 1932, marking a distinct shift from its earlier Republican preferences.
