International Boxing Hall of Fame, Sports hall of fame in Canastota, United States.
The International Boxing Hall of Fame houses gloves, belts, trunks, photographs and personal items from matches across all weight divisions. Walls carry plaques listing inductees and their career records from around the world.
Residents of Canastota launched an effort in 1989 to honor two local world champions and opened the museum in 1990. The first ceremony took place at Madison Square Garden before all activities moved to Canastota.
Professional boxers become eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame after maintaining a five-year retirement period from their last professional match.
The museum offers audio guides in several languages and hands-on stations for children and adults. A shop sells books, clothing and signed souvenirs from different eras of the sport.
Every June, former world champions, trainers and journalists travel to this small town for the induction weekend and sign autographs. Some fans cross oceans to attend the ceremony and weekend events.
