National Air and Space Museum, Aviation museum on National Mall, Washington D.C., United States.
The National Air and Space Museum contains the world's largest collection of aircraft, spacecraft, rockets, and space exploration equipment in two locations.
The museum opened on July 1, 1976, following Congressional establishment in 1946 and acquisition of artifacts from the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition.
The museum's collection documents the evolution of flight through original artifacts, including the Wright Flyer, Spirit of St. Louis, and Apollo 11 command module.
Located at Jefferson Drive between 4th and 7th Street SW, the museum offers free admission and remains open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center extension near Dulles Airport displays additional aircraft including Space Shuttle Discovery and Concorde in large hangars.
