King of Kings, Colossal statue in Ohio
The King of Kings was a colossal statue of Jesus that stood beside Interstate 75 in Ohio, rising approximately 62 feet (19 m) tall with outstretched arms. The structure was made of fiberglass and steel and could be easily spotted from the highway.
The statue was completed in 2004 and quickly became a roadside landmark between Cincinnati and Dayton. It was struck by lightning in 2010, which caused the structure to collapse.
The statue served as a modern religious landmark that caught the attention of people traveling through the region. It represented a contemporary way that communities express their Christian faith through public art.
The location sat directly beside Interstate 75, making it easy to spot from passing cars. Visitors could view the statue from several nearby pullouts and rest areas.
Local residents nicknamed the statue 'Touchdown Jesus' because of its massive outstretched arms positioned high above the highway. The name humorously referenced an American football player signaling a touchdown.
