Glendower State Memorial

Glendower State Memorial is a two-story house with classical columns and thoughtfully designed facades in Lebanon, Ohio. The interior is outfitted with refined details, and the rooms show how a wealthy family of the 19th century furnished and lived.

The building was constructed in 1836 as a commission from a wealthy merchant to builder Amos Bennett. This period shows how Greek Revival architecture arrived in America's Midwest.

The house shows how wealthy 19th-century merchants in Ohio wanted to live and what architectural style they preferred. The classical columns and symmetrical forms reflect a time when European design ideals took root in America.

The name comes from the Welsh poet Owain Glyndŵr and honors a historical figure with no connection to this place. The grounds hold various tree species planted over many decades, creating an arboretum surrounding the house.
