Nickajack Lake, Reservoir in Marion County, Tennessee, US
Nickajack Lake extends 46 miles northeast from Nickajack Dam to Chickamauga Dam, encompassing 10,370 acres with 179 miles of shoreline.
The Tennessee Valley Authority completed Nickajack Dam in December 1967 to replace the structurally compromised Hales Bar Dam upstream.
The Nickajack Cave Wildlife Refuge, located near the lake, holds significance for Native American history and served as shelter during the Civil War.
The reservoir maintains a consistent water level at 633.5 feet above sea level throughout the year, making it reliable for navigation and recreation.
Every evening from late April to early October, thousands of endangered gray bats emerge from Nickajack Cave to feed over the lake waters.
